About Olney Town FC

Our History

Officially the club was formed in 1903 and became founder members of the North Bucks League in 1911-12. Evidence exists today of a signed balance sheet from 1903, one interesting item on the balance sheet gives the information that just over £1 was credited as proceeds from a smoking competition.

During it's existence from 1911 to 1963 Olney fluctuated between North Bucks and South East Northants football. For some reason instead of returning to North Bucks they entered the S.E. Northants after 1918 and played there for some years. The 1930's finds them again in the North Bucks in which they started again in 1946 after hostilities. In 1954 they returned to the Rushden District League (the old S.E. Northants) and again changed allegiance in 61-62. Finally in 1964 they voted to enter the United Counties League where they have remained ever since.

Olney have been several times winners of the Rushden & District Premier, one time winner of the North Bucks League and finally their best achievement winners of the United Counties League Division 1.

Olney Town for short periods have been involved in the F.A. Vase, the F.A. Cup, the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup and the Premier League of the United Counties League. Unfortunately their ground now precludes them from these competitions.

As with most clubs there have been periods of highs and the emergence of an outstanding player occasionally. Another proud record is that they are one of the few clubs in the area to continuously field two competitive teams since the war.

The proudest moment for the club came in 1992-93 season when the Junior team won the Under 11's League and the Sunday Section First team won the Sunday League KO Cup. But the biggest honour was the Saturday First Team winning the Berks and Bucks Intermediate Cup for the first time in the clubs history.

Olney Town finished the 2016/17 season in 4th place, with a Berks & Bucks Cup Final appearnce and also a quarter final place in the UCL KOC.
